Before Your Visit

  • Ask your vet to fill out the Vet Referral form. This confirms that your dog is fit and well enough for hydrotherapy and provides details of any relevant medical history.

  • Please allow 60 mins for the first appointment. Getting to know you and your dog is very important to me in order to get the most out of the treatment sessions. This also gives your dog time to get used to the new environment. Further sessions are up to 40 minutes.

  • On the day of your dog's session, please do not feed your dog at least 3 hours prior to swimming.

  • Allow your dog to go to the toilet before the session and please pick up after them. There is a grassy area outside the clinic.

  • If your dog has an infectious or contagious condition, you are required to inform us to reschedule your appointment.

  • If your dog comes into season you must inform us as she will be unable to attend clinic until her season is over.

  • Please give at least 24 hours notice if cancelling or changing an appointment. Your dog’s appointment time has been kept exclusively for them.

Your Canine HYDROTHERAPY session

All treatments are adapted to your dog’s needs following an intial short assessment.

Dogs are given a warm shower before treatment to help warm up the joints and muscles, this will also acclimatise your dog to water.

Your dog is then fitted with a buoyancy aid or harness before heading to the pool.

For dogs unsure of water I have an underwater platform where they can acclimatise to their surroundings before swimming.

Each session of swimming will depend on the dog’s condition and ability. On the first appointment it is likely that your dog will only spend a short time in the water.

Post-treatment your dog is given another shower followed by a towel or blow dry. It is important that after your session your dog is kept warm. I highly recommend using a towelling/fleece coat for the journey home.

The Pool

The pool is a generous 6 metres x 3 metres and heated to a toasty 30 -32°C to provide optimum temperature for muscle relaxation and blood circulation. It is equipped with a large gradual ramp for ease of entry and exit.

Water sanitation is tested three times a day to ensure optimum hygiene and clarity.
